On April 30 and May 9, 2026, we shared social media posts about Mayor Brett Smiley’s newly reported multi-million-dollar home in Tiverton and his continued support for removing homeless encampments throughout Providence.
A recent GoLocalProv report revealed that Mayor Brett Smiley and his husband had built another multi-million-dollar home, this time in Tiverton. The report also noted the contrast between Smiley’s housing situation and that of his mayoral challenger, David Morales, who rents an apartment.
About a week later, journalist Steve Ahlquist posted on social media that the city had continued its forced removals of homeless communities. These actions had been spurred and encouraged by the mayor in previous years. Ahlquist argued that long-term housing solutions and preventative measures have remained limited.
